Supper tonight has gone through several mental changes.
i pulled some ground beef from the freezer, figuring on burgers. Didn't feel too inspired, but it's quick and easy, once the meat's thawed, which it almost is. In the time it's been thawing, i've considered a few things i could make if i didn't wait. i could throw it in a skillet and brown it, then add ingredients for a number of one dish meals, or make a pizza, since i've got a mix for a gluten free crust. (Which makes it also wheat free, which is my personal need.)
i didn't have any goat or sheep cheese, so i ruled out the pizza, and the crisper is empty, so no veggies to toss in the pan with it. Back to burgers i went.
The dogs, however, seem to believe it's suppertime already, and it'll be a few more minutes before the meat'll be ready to grill. So i've got a couple of shadows until i get it all together.
Last night, since i'm talking about food, i made a salad with rice penne pasta, tuna, yellow bell pepper, minced onion, jalapeno, and sweet pickles, seasoned the eggless mayo with curry and celery seed and took it as a picnic supper, bought some chips and a coffee, and relaxed before rehearsal.
i'm sure there's something else i should say here, but...

LOL. It's ok. Maybe you'll inspire me to get my butt into the kitchen more with this kind of post. I try to thaw the meat out the night before so it's ready when I get home.
ReplyDeleteI hate "shadows" when I'm trying to get stuff done. I always worry about stepping on one of them and hurting it.
Did you grow the peppers? If not I wish you were closer. I have more than I can use in the garden so give some away each week.
i didn't grow the peppers. i do well with hot peppers, but not bell. The jalapenos were pickled. All i did in the garden this year were three tomato plants which did moderately.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing i actually dislike about my kitchen (and everywhere i go) company is when they're too close to get out of the way and don't predict where i'm going. Sadie 'bout got stepped on last night on the way to bed because she failed to remember that i'd be ducking into the hall bathroom to leave the light on.
If we lived closer together, we'd probably be eating together pretty frequently without eating out.
That would be cool. We don't have any close friends, and it would be fun to cook for 4 every couple of nights than for 2 every night. Tonight was the really bad evil - McDonalds.
ReplyDeleteMy tomatoes were not great this year. I do have tons of fresh herbs, which I don't use much of, and I seem to be able to grow peppers well. Like you though, bells take so long to mature that something tends to get to them before they get very big.
i love growing my own herbs, but then don't use them terribly often because they seem too repetitive. Garlic is the seasoning i use the most of. Fortunately, i inherited garlic from a previous owner. Unfortunately, not nearly enough to keep up. lol
DeleteWhat i'd really like to grow is cherries, but they do best in cooler climates.
i learned to cook for four, so then had to adjust to cooking for two. Cooking for one is the most difficult. If i were down to that, i'd either starve or freeze a lot.
